It is with great sadness that I let you know that TO SPEAK composer, Reuben Kee, passed away on Friday 23 November 2007.
Reuben was representing Singapore at a dragon-boat festival in Phnom Penh. Following a race, the Singapore boat appears to have been hit by a rogue-wave and in turn hit a pontoon and overturned. Reuben was one of five crew-members who did not make it back to the surface. The bodies of all five crew-members were found and identified this morning.
Reuben was a self-taught musician and had been President of his Polytechnic’s Piano Association. In addition to representing Singapore in dragon-boating, Reuben won this year’s Mr Singapore title.
There is no doubt that the music Reuben created for TO SPEAK took our film to another level. His music has certainly had a profound effect on all who have seen the film. We are thankful for the wonderful gift of his music.
Our deepest condolences go out to Reuben’s family and the families of all those affected by this tragedy.
